Australian brigade went ashore on Tarakan Island, Borneo.
Carried to the beaches by landing craft manned by U.S.
Army engineers, the Australians had air support from

was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and
participated in the assault and occupation of Iwo Jima in
February 1945 and the assault and occupation of Okinawa
Gunto from April through June 1945. After the war LST-641
performed occupation duty in the Far East and saw service
in China until mid-June 1946. Decommissioned, 13 June
1946; Struck from the Naval Register, 19 July 1946; Final
disposition, fate unknown; LST-641 earned two
